M.A.C. – Oct /Nov Roundup 2025

M.A.C -Oct / Nov Roundup Club News, Notices, Points of Interest & Information for Members from the Club Committee Meeting held on Monday 27/10/2025.

  • AGM 2025 – Middlesbrough Angling Club Annual General Meeting is taking place on Monday 24th November at St Francis Social Club – 200 Acklam Road, Middlesbrough TS5 4PS. The meeting will start at 7.30pm, the doors & bar will be open from 6.45pm. The AGM Agenda will be published on the website & Facebook page in advance.
  • All members are welcome & encouraged to attend.
  • HUTTON RUDBY ANTI-PREDATION – Work has started at Hutton Rudby to prevent fish loss due to predation over the winter months.
  • We applied for a grant from the Angling Trust and were successful in obtaining £1648.84 towards the costs.
  • The number of anglers visiting the ponds between November & March drops off dramatically thus leaving cormorants access to a free all you can eat buffet.
  • Lines will be placed across the back pond to prevent cormorants landing, together with eagle kites & spinners being put in place.
  • Members will still be able to fish between the lines, but please take care when casting.
  • Planting will be taking place on the front pond with some chestnut paling fencing being put in place to make safe refuges for juvenile fish.
  • We did ask the Angling Trust Predation Specialist who visited both Hutton Rudby and Marske Reservoir what we could do at Marske. We were advised that it’s a difficult venue to make safe from predation due to its size & location being so close to the coast – we will monitor the success of the anti-predation measures at Hutton Rudby and continue to look at similar solutions for Marske.
  • Please bear with us while the work is ongoing.
  • This makes a total received from The Angling Trust and The EA over the past 3 years in excess of £11500.
  • This funding comes directly from our Annual License Fees and just goes to show how our money is invested back into angling.
  • HUTTON RUDBY OCTOBER MATCHES – Three matches took place on the Back Pond which enabled 22 of the larger Carp – approx 150lbs in total – to be transferred into the Front Pond. This has replaced fish lost in the front pond during the Summer. Arrangements will now be made to re-stock the back pond with a mix of species to replace the fish that have been moved pound for pound and ensure bites continue on both ponds!
  • The matches produced a new match record for the back pond when Anth Moore weighed in a total of 25 carp for 107lb 1oz, a great effort from Peg 14 – he will willingly talk you through the match fish by fish, all you have to do is ask nicely!
  • Thanks to all involved in running and supporting the matches.

  • MARSKE RESERVOIR RE-STOCKING POLICY – There are plans in place to start a re-stocking policy at Marske Reservoir. No stocking has taken place for a number of years now and in order to future-proof the excellent fishing available at the reservoir and introduce different year classes of fish that may have suffered from predation at the venue, the committee agrees that a monitored, pro-active re-stocking policy will avoid any future shortage of fish.
  • BARBED HOOKS – When one of our members recently caught the carp known as the Long Common they discovered it was trailing a rig that featured a barbed hook – Both Marske Reservoir & Hutton Rudby are BARBLESS HOOKS ONLY – The club prioritises fish welfare and such rules are in place for good reason – Thanks to the members involved for bringing this to our attention – please don’t be offended if you are asked by club officials to reel in for a rig check.
  • NORTHERN RIVER MASTERS FINAL 2025 – The final of the Norths premier river competition is being held on the River Tees at Bowesfield and Yarm on the 8th & 9th November – Jeff Herbert & Ian Kirton, both on our Committee, have managed to qualify for the final and we would like to wish them the best of luck.
  • MIDDLE TEES MATCHES – The final match of 2025 on the clubs water at Low Dinsdale will take place on Sunday 23rd November – Please book on with Dale at Anglers Choice (01642) 899288 – Meet 8.30AM at Dinsdale Toll Bridge – Fishing 10.30AM – 3.30PM
  • MATCH CALENDAR 2026 – We are currently putting together the club Match Calendar for 2026, this will include all matches held at Hutton Rudby, Marske Reservoir, Lockwood Beck & on the Rivers.
  • CARP MATCH? – The committee has discussed the possibility of trialling a Carp Match at Marske Reservoir. Plans are for a limited number of anglers to fish a longer ‘session’ based match format with two rods allowed and all fish weighed and returned immediately. More information to follow.
  • MARSKE WORKS – The refurbishment of the remaining pegs at Marske Reservoir will now be completed in the New Year.
  • REMINDERS… Please take extra care when visiting Club Venues during the autumn and winter when the banks are more likely to be slippy – nobody wants to go for a swim, especially during the colder months.
  • Only members of the club should be present on our venues. Any non-members are not covered by our insurance policy.
  • Membership checks will continue on all our venues, by our Fisheries Officers, Committee Members and Bailiffs. Please remember, all members can ask to see another members membership card
  • Environment Agency & Rural Police Officers have been given permission to attend our venues at anytime and continue to visit Marske Reservoir and Hutton Rudby Ponds on their rounds to check rod licences.
  • If you are asked to show your membership card or Rod Licence or maybe just asked to reel in to do a rig check please don’t be offended – it is merely to ensure fish welfare and continued enjoyment of our venues for all members.
  • Please ensure all landing nets (keep nets for matches), weigh slings and unhooking mats etc are dry and left out in the open air before fishing to avoid the spread of disease. UV light kills off any unwanted bacteria.
  • Please ensure the gates are locked at all times – when opening the first gate at Marske reservoir please don’t use the lock to keep the gate open – this causes damage to the lock.
  • Please take all of your rubbish/litter/cans home with you and dispose of them responsibly. Leaving rubbish for somebody else to pick up will not be tolerated, if caught memberships will be revoked. LEAVE LITTER – LEAVE THE CLUB.

Lastly… Tight Lines to all our Members, Stay Safe & Thanks for reading this update.
