M.A.C. – May/June Roundup 2025

M.A.C – May / June Roundup Club news, Notices, Points of interest, Information for Members From the Club Committee Meeting held on Monday 2nd June 2025.

  • MEMBERSHIPS 2025 – Emails have now been sent out to prospective new members who had lodged their applications prior to the end of March 2025. The Emails include instructions as to the next steps. If anyone hasn’t received an email please check your junk emails first & then contact the Clubs Membership Secretary.
  • The River season is upon us, the Clubs stretches of the Tees, Swale & Leven are open for fishing from June 16th.
  • Members are reminded that the two stretches of the River Swale at Ainderby & Gatenby are NOT currently available for  MAC Members to Fish. Check out the maps page on the clubs website for help locating our stretches of river – https://middlesbroughanglingclub.co.uk/maps/
  • If you are out and about on the River stretches please be careful as there are areas of Giant Hogweed which can be dangerous if touched. The club is working with the Tees Rivers Trust to keep our waters safe and clear of Giant Hogweed – Spraying has taken place with further dates planned.
  • The club Rivers Officer, Jeff Herbert, and therefore the Club are looking to put together a working group to help with maintaining the pegs and accessibility of our river stretches – Anybody who is available to help please contact Jeff on 01642 825604. Jeff can usually be found out on the River banks on Tues & Thurs if anybody can lend a hand – Every little helps.
  • MARSKE RESERVOIR MAJOR WORKS CONTINUE – The work on the pegs at the Reservoir is now well under way, with 12 pegs nearing completion. Please bear with us, and the workmen whilst the remaining work continues. The work is well overdue and will, when complete, make the fishery a lot safer & more accessible to all. The pegs in the 30’s are still to be refurbished, we will be looking at these in the coming weeks.
  • There are plans to strengthen the  “Bivvy” pegs on the Dam wall where the corners are falling away. The planned installation of the CCTV is still on course which will when complete, help with Security at the Reservoir and also highlight any antisocial behaviour taking place
  • The Committee has received several complaints that a minority of members are smoking illicit substances whilst fishing on Club waters – We would like to remind members that this is breaking Club rules – and also the Law. We have members as young as 6 years of age and as such drug use will not be tolerated.
  • MARSKE RESERVOIR NIGHT SYNDICATE WAITING LIST – As discussed at last years AGM the club committee are working towards making the list of current Members of the Night Syndicate and waiting list available on the Clubs Website. The waiting list however, has proven difficult to collate with any certainty. We have 3 or 4 separate lists which have been handed down over the years, none of which are numbered or dated – In order for the Membership Secretary to have a definitive list to work from it has been decided to start a fresh – A new list will be put together. All members who fulfil the criteria, listed in the Night Syndicate Rules are eligible to put their names down – The list will be opened in due course with plenty of notice given on the club website and Facebook members group to ensure fairness & transparency. The list will be filled on a strictly first come first served basis. Please note – Any requests received before the date & time TBA will be discarded. This is the fairest way that we can see to deal with this matter.
  • FISH SPAWNING – As the weather gets warmer it may be necessary to rope off areas at Marske Reservoir & Hutton Rudby ponds, this will allow the fish some space & privacy whilst spawning. Please do not fish inside of these roped off areas.
  • NWL MAC RESERVOIR MASTERS 2025 – After four rounds of highly competitive, natural venue match fishing at Lockwood Beck, Russ Hodgson has been crowned this years MAC Northumbrian Water Reservoir Master – taking the title – and £300 prize money – on weight – with a perfect 4 section wins. Full match report and final standings are on the club website HERE

  • HUTTON RUDBY MONDAY MATCHES – Matches continue every Monday afternoon alternating between the ponds at Hutton Rugby – New faces are welcome – Full details – https://bit.ly/41WmQ1V
  • MARSKE RESERVOIR SEASONAL CHAMPS – The Summer Champs match takes place at the res on Sunday 20th July – Those wishing to take part can book on two weeks ahead of the date with Dale at Anglers Choice – Full details – https://bit.ly/3G3OZv9
  • Membership checks will continue on all our venues, not only by our Fisheries Officers, Committee Members and Bailiffs but also by the Environment Agency who have visited both Marske Reservoir & Hutton Rudby in the last few months to check our members hold EA Rod licences. If you are asked to show your Membership card or Rod Licence or maybe just asked to reel in to do a rig check please don’t be offended it is merely to ensure fish welfare and continued enjoyment of our venues for members.
  • Please ensure the gates are locked at all times.
  • Please take all of your Rubbish/Litter/Cans home with you and dispose of them responsibly. Leaving Rubbish for somebody else to pick up will not be tolerated, if caught memberships will be revoked. LEAVE LITTER – LEAVE THE CLUB.
